Michael S. MacQuaid

Michael graduated from St. Mary's University School of Law (magna cum laude) in 1995, where he was a Senior Associate Editor of St. Mary's Law Journal. Prior to attending law school, Michael earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.

After graduating law school Michael was hired by Stephen Harrison to practice construction law, which he has done since that time. Michael represents general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and an occasional owner and design professional in construction law trials and arbitrations. These matters have included construction defects, design defects, breach of contract claims, mechanic lien claims and bond claims. From his experience in these trials and arbitrations, he has developed knowledge in dealing with contract drafting and negotiations and has drafted and negotiated contracts for both general contractors and subcontractors. Michael's practice includes: (i) preparing, filing, and pursuing collection of mechanic's liens for prime contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers and defending against mechanic's liens filed by subcontractors and suppliers; (ii) preparing, asserting, and pursuing collection of bond claims for subcontractors and suppliers and defending prime contractors against bond claims asserted by subcontractors and suppliers; (iii) preparing and filing Bonds to Indemnify Against Lien and Bonds to Pay Liens or Claims under Subchapters H and I of the Texas Property Code; (iv) developing and presenting other construction claims, including, but not limited to, construction and design defect claims, contract claims, delay damages claims, and Prompt Pay Act claims, on behalf of prime contractors and subcontractors; (v) defending prime contractors and subcontractors against other construction claims, including, but not limited to, construction and design defect claims, contact claims, delay damages claims, and Prompt Pay Act claims.

In 2016, Michael, along with two of his partners, became three of the first group of attorneys ever certified in construction law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. In addition to being board certified in construction law, Michael is a member of the ABA Forum on the Construction Industry, the Construction Law Section of the Texas Bar Association, and the Construction Law Section of the Tarrant County Bar Association.
