Kelly Jones
Mr. Jones founded the Arlington firm of Jones Hassett, PC in 1980, and served as that firm’s managing partner until its merger into Harrison Steck in February of 2022.
For over 45 years, Mr. Jones has practiced law by NOT thinking like a lawyer. Instead, he sees his clients’ problems and opportunities from their perspective. What is the most direct and efficient path to obtaining their objective? Maintaining his clients’ objectives and focus has earned Mr. Jones a loyal following in the business law arena.
A life fellow in the Texas Bar Foundation, Mr. Jones is rated “AV-Preeminent 5.0” by Martindale-Hubbell, a peer review directory. This rating indicates “that a lawyer’s peers rank him or her at the highest level of professional excellence.”
He graduated from the University of Texas in 1978 with a Juris Doctorate degree, and from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree (high honors).
Mr. Jones was one of the first lawyers in Texas to be board certified in commercial real estate law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 1984. He has been continuously re-certified thereafter. He authored the article Texas Mechanics’ and Materialmen’s Lien Laws: A Guide through the Maze, which appeared in the Texas Bar Journal in March of 1985.
Mr. Jones has served since 2019 as the mayor of Westworth Village. He previously served from 1985 to 1989 on the Arlington City Council, from 2009 through 2015 on the Westworth Village City Council, and from 1987 through 1993 on the Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents (chairman, 1991-1993). He is a past president of the Westworth Redevelopment Authority, a Texas non-profit economic development corporation.
Mr. Jones served from 1997-2006 as chief executive officer and chief financial officer of VirTra Systems, Inc., a then-fully reporting public company whose shares traded on the OTC Bulletin Board. He also served from 2006-2009 on the board of directors of Spicy Pickle Franchising, Inc., a public company whose shares traded on the OTC Bulletin Board.
Kelly and his wife of 44 years, Susan, live in Westworth Village, and love to visit their second home in San Pedro, Belize. He is a professional scuba divemaster, a certified underwater photography instructor, and a professional photographer. He enjoys photography, wine, and his beloved Texas Longhorns.
